Waterville & the Ring of Kerry
Waterville Waterville town centre is just a short walk away. Beautifully situated between Ballinskelligs Bay and Lough Currane, Waterville is one of the most popular coastal destinations on the Ring of Kerry. The town has attracted many famous visitors over the years, most notably the legendary actor Charlie Chaplin and his family, whose connection with Waterville is still fondly remembered today. 
The area is surrounded by beautiful beaches, scenic coastal walks and spectacular landscapes. Waterville offers a good selection of shops, traditional pubs and restaurants, ranging from casual and budget-friendly dining to excellent fine cuisine. Fresh local seafood is a speciality at many of the restaurants, making Waterville a wonderful place to enjoy the flavours of the Atlantic coast.
The Ring of Kerry panoramic route is one of Ireland’s most famous scenic drives, taking you around the spectacular Iveragh Peninsula through a succession of breathtaking landscapes, dramatic coastline, mountains and charming villages.
A less well-known but equally scenic route leads from Waterville to Ballinskelligs, winding through beautiful mountain scenery before continuing to Portmagee and Valentia Island. Along the way, you can enjoy spectacular views across St Finan’s Bay towards the Skellig Islands, a truly unforgettable highlight of the Kerry coastline. (more on the next page).
Lake Currane is not only a favourite destination for anglers but also home to *Church Island*, where the atmospheric ruins of a 6th-century oratory can be found. The lake and its surrounding landscape offer a wonderful combination of natural beauty and historic interest.
The Iveragh Peninsula is also home to the spectacular MacGillycuddy’s Reeks, Ireland’s highest mountain range, including Carrauntoohil, the country’s highest peak. It is just a 30-minute drive from the house, making this an ideal base for exploring some of Kerry’s most dramatic mountain scenery.
Walkers, hikers and cyclists will find plenty of opportunities to discover the wilder side of the peninsula, from scenic trails and mountain routes to quiet country roads.
